Indus is grooming leaders and they won’t mind politics too

Hyderabad, India, March 10, 2014: At the leadership summit held at Indus International School on 8 March 2014 the children found motivation to groom themselves as leaders in as many disciplines that include entrepreneurship, sports and politics too.
The leadership summit saw presentations and talks by students on leadership. Middle school children suggested ideas to their CEO on ‘Future Trends in Leadership Development'. The event also had a powerful mime performance on Women's Empowerment.

 

The event on Saturday evening by address by CEO Gen Ray. Chief Guest danseuse Ananda Shankar was impressed with the students' performances and said that few schools have a practical application of leadership skills like Indus.
"I expect to see many students of Indus as leaders in the future. I am expecting presidents, politicians, business leaders, and artists. I can see your potential." Ms Shankar gave an inspiring speech on how her love of dance helped her to focus on something positive during her diagnosis and subsequent treatment of breast cancer.

The school put forward to students disciplines that have immense scope in leadership development. These disciplines will also be embedded in their academic curriculum. Indus Network are also strengthening their relationships with industry, which bring in insights as to what are the right grades, soft skills and experience that would future friendly. The Leadership summit is an initiative born out of this thought. The CEO of Indus Trust announced that he also called for the schools to publish details about each student leadership's journey.
The youngest speaker during the summit was Aryan a PP2 student, who in his talk said his goal was to learn to read up to level 6 of Oxford Reading Tree stories and finish level 7. He said to be a leader one should be kind, trustworthy and responsible.
Anchal, a grade 9 student in her address talked about fostering self-esteem in children. She shared her suggestions to the school authorities that in classroom teacher must establish a positive atmosphere while dealing with children. Teachers must also applaud the activity and not the child to encourage a co-operative environment. Another key point she made was to teach children how to use failures as learning opportunities.

Grade 9 student Hae Lin expressed concern about the global warming and called for environment care he was taken aback when he watched a video recently which showed millions of trees are cut down. 17 % of the Amazon forest which is called the lungs of the earth has been lost in the last 50 years. Because of our ignorance about global warming, 200 living species are becoming extinct every day. Now he wants to take the lead of starting a blog where he could share the thoughts about global warming, current situation and effect of global warming around the world. When asked about would any of the student would like to become a political leaders there were surprising many hands that were raised. As the future generation we think we would be able to bring about change in many areas as a political leader as it gives you power and the will to do something for the society.

In her talk Anika Gupta, a grade 6 student talked about how to deal with bullying in classroom and outside classrooms. She suggested a BE Bold Ignore Discuss and Talk method (BIDT). She gave her thoughts on how the school can help build self esteem amongst students.
Inculcating leadership at Indus is a continuous process says CEO of Indus Trust Gen Ray. We believe the leaders of tomorrow will evolve from schools. All we need to do is encourage and provide them the right opportunity to nurture their leadership skills. " The world is becoming flat. Leadership is the game changer in education". In a speech about leadership within Gen Ray said the nation is looking for young people who are "self-disciplined and capable of subordinating their own instincts and interests to the needs of the people around them - true servant leadership."
