The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and Delhi University have been ranked in the top ten best universities in the country according to a popular world ranking body. This is for the academic year 2017 to 2018.
While the other colleges made it to the top 200, the University of Delhi for the first time entered the top 500th position globally.

On Wednesday, the data was released by QS World University Rankings, an annual publication of university ranking by a British company Quacquarelli Symonds specialised in education and study abroad.
Other universities that made it in the QS World University Rankings are Karnataka's Manipal University, (It was ranked highest among private universities in the country), Manipal University(ranked in the band 701-750 bringing it to the 13th position in the country).
New universities that entered the top ranking list
- Jadavpur University (ranked in the 601-650 band)
- University of Hyderabad (601-650)
- Anna University (651-700)
- Manipal University (701-750)
- Aligarh Muslim University (800-1000)
- Birla Institute of Technology and Science (800-1000)
Top universities that made it to the QS World University Rankings:
In the world level, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked number one. Stanford University and Harvard University secured the second and third ranks respectively.
