The Country's Premier Research Institute, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, is hosting "Pravega 2014", a Science, Technology and Cultural Fest from 31st January to 02nd February.
The festival will be hosted at the sylvan Indian Institute of Science campus in Bangalore. With the overarching theme as "Exploring the Frontiers of Science", the festival will be an eclectic blend of demon- strations, competitions, workshops, exhibitions and talks spread across three days.

The IISc located in the city of Bangalore is India's premier institute of research in Science and Technology. Founded in 1909, it is spread out over an area of 443 acres in the heart of Bangalore and is home to more than 40 departments, 3500 students and 500 faculty members. In 2011, IISc pioneered the creation of the 4 year Undergraduate Bachelor of Science programme in India. Now in its third year, it comprises of 300 young and dynamic minds. The students of IISc are among the cream of India's student community and they are now taking on the task of organizing the first true inter-college science festival in India.
Pravega has been conceived as an annual Science, Technology and Cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Science. A unique and unprecedented venture on a pan-India scale, Pravega aims to bring together the brightest young minds of India from the fields of sciences, engineering as well as the humanities by providing a common platform where they can interact, compete and share ideas.
The focus at pravega is on the next wave of technological challenges:
- Nano science and technology
- Clean energy
- Urban planning and sustainability
- Climate science and the challenges posed by climate change
These are brought out via competitions, panel discussions, Lecture Series and talks by the top executives of Industries at the fore front of the attempt to unravel these challenges. Pravega shall take place from 31st January to 2nd February 2014.
Who will attend:
Participation is anticipated from students of over 500 colleges including the IITs, NITs, IISERs, the premier central and state universities as well as all the top colleges of Bangalore.
Description of Events:
Competitions: All competitions are novel and are designed keeping three key tenets in mind-practical applicability, academic stimulation and fun.
Lectures: Prominent personalities from both the industry and the academia are invited to speak on the frontiers of Science and Technological research and the focus areas for the coming years to an audience of bright S&T students.
Workshops: Workshops provide hands-on experience to the participants.
Exhibition: An R&D exhibition has been planned as a central attraction of Pravega 2013-14. We expect that in coming years this will evolve into a platform for S&T enterprises and institutions to display cutting edge research from their premier labs.
Seminars and Panel Discussions: These will provide platforms for experts to explore various facets of modern research and foster industry-students interactions.
Quizzes: A general quiz with attractive prizes hosted by a prominent quiz master which will attract quizzers from all over the country. A science quiz is also planned where participants will be quizzed on their awareness of developments in the areas of science and technology.
What to Expect:
One of the most anticipated aspects of Pravega is the scientifically and culturally eclectic atmosphere it will foster, by attracting passionate and intellectual students of all disciplines. It will be a forum where participants will continuously encounter, exchange, and imbibe new ideas and personalities and as a result will stretch and broaden their minds to new horizons.
