One of the premier institutes of the country, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore has decided to suspend its Postgraduate Programme -UAE in its Dubai campus.
IIM Indore has released its notification saying, "It is with regret that we wish to inform students that, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of IIM Indore, IIM Indore has decided not to admit new students to its PGP-UAE program this year, i.e. for the 2014-16 batch. Application fee paid by the applicants will be refunded through bank transfer. Admissions office will also be sending email to the applicants in this regard."
It was the 4th batch to take the admission to PGP at Dubai campus. The final selection of the candidates were scheduled in August-mid but it has been cancelled.
Public relation officer, IIM-Indore, Akhtar Parvez said, "Admissions to 2014-16 batch in Dubai campus have been suspended for this year. We have communicated about the development to all shortlisted candidates. We have sought their bank account details to refund application fees."
The institute had received the applications from the candidates for the July 2014 batch with a fee of Rs 1,000/- for CAT candidates and $250 for GMAT candidates.
According to the institute, the primary reason for this decision seems to be the less number of students enrolled for the programmes. There also seem to be some technical problems behind this move.
The first batch of PGP-UAE had started in the year 2011 with few students. In 2012, the number of students enrolled had increased, but again in 2013, it faced low strength. Last year, the administration shifted to Dubai campus for better industrial and job opportunities.
IIM Indore offers another PGP course for executives, but the situation is different and unclear. Candidates are waiting for the institutes decision on this course, whether will they continue the course or not.
