One of the renowned institutions of the country, IIM Calcutta, is expecting accreditation from top two accreditation agencies for Masters of Business Administration (MBA) institutes. Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA) are the two big fishes of this business, both the agencies are located in Europe.
According to the schedule, an inspection team of AMBA will visit IIM Calcutta's Joka campus on 14th and 15th January, 2014. After the inspection, the team will submit its report to AMBA and on the basis of that report the final decision will be revealed.
If all goes according to the plan, and IIM Calcutta manage to crack this deal then it will become the first institute of the country who has achieved this landmark. No other IIM has acquired accreditation from AACSB. This will not only motivate the authorities of IIM Calcutta but an AMBA certificate will also increase the brand value of the institution. However, another premier agency Equis has already given accreditation to IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad, but no other IIM has double accreditation.
Since past one year, the officials of IIM Calcutta are in direct touch with these agencies in order to get accreditation. When contacted, the officials informed about the accomplishments at IIM Calcutta and its regular activities. This information included course curriculum, new teaching drives, research and faculty quality, measures taken to draw foreign students, student feedback on faculty, placement achievements, and employer feedback. The team from AMBA will visit the campus, therefore, to verify the details and interact with students and teachers.
