Considering the fact that an average of 75 seconds is required to solve one problem, a minimum of 25 minutes is required to solve this section.

We have prepared an excellent strategy to clear this section. We will start with the pattern of the QA section of RBI Grade B:

How to Crack Quantitative Aptitude of RBI Grade B

Strategy to Clear Quantitative Aptitude of RBI Grade B Phase 1

TopicNumber of Questions
Series 3 - 5
Data Interpretation (DI) 10
Quadratic Equations 2 - 4
Data Sufficiency 3

Ratio, Percentage, Mensuration, Algebra

and Time, Speed and Distance

5 - 8

Let us now see how to approach each topic

1. Data Interpretation for RBI Grade B

This topic will have questions with a moderate to high difficulty level.

  • Most of the questions are from Pie charts, bar diagram and graphs.
  • Read the questions carefully and understand what is being asked. Chances are that there will be a few questions that won't even need calculations.
  • Weigh your option. There will always be some questions that are comparatively easier to solve than others. Identify these questions and solve them quickly.
  • Focus on solving one question at a time. If you feel it is taking longer time then move to the next question.
  • Solve only what is asked. DI questions have an enormous amount of data to confuse the candidate. For example, a graph can be given stating the income and losses of few years and you are asked to find the expenditure of year A. Do not try to solve expenditure for year B, unless it is used to find the value of expenditure in A. Read carefully and then solve accordingly.
  • While solving the questions, avoid mixing up the data by writing the figures on the rough sheet. Assign proper and unique variables to it so that you do not get the figures mixed up while solving.
  • Practice all types of DI and practice a lot to improve your speed and accuracy

2. Series for RBI Grade B

There can be several patterns given under this topic such as:

  • Prime Numbers:
  • Squares/ Cubes
  • Patterns in differences
  • Pattern in alternate numbers
  • Geometric series
  • Odd one out
  • Cube roots/ square roots

Don't rush through solving these type of questions. Give it a good amount of time to achieve 100% accuracy.

3. Arithmetic for RBI Grade B

Prepare the following topics

  • Percentage
  • Averages
  • Simple Interest/ Compound Interest
  • Profit and Loss
  • Ratio & Proportions
  • Time and Work
  • Time Speed and Distance

These topics will give you the much needed marks to clear the sectional cutoff for the quantitative section of RBI Grade B.

4. Quadratic Equations for RBI Grade B

  • Don't get too stressed out, trying to solve each and every question in exam.
  • Quadratic Equations take up a lot of time and generally have low accuracy among candidates.
  • You either know how to solve these questions or you don't. There is no middle ground.
  • Learn your formulae like the back of your hand so that there is no room for error while solving questions from these topics.

5. Data Sufficiency for RBI Grade B

  • Read the given statements carefully. Make no assumptions about any data.
  • Ask yourself whether the question can be solved with the given information. These questions are not supposed to involve long and drawn-out calculations. However if you still find yourself doing a lot of calculations, there is certainly something you're not seeing.
  • Compare both statements individually with the main statement and then compare them combined. If the answer does not match, then the data is insufficient.
