Gandhinagar, Nov 12: Gujarat government has admitted that over 9.72 lakh educated but unemployed youths, including 39,393 postgraduates, had registered themselves with various state employment exchanges between 2011 and 2014.
"A total of 9,72,184 educated but unemployed youths got themselves registered at various employment exchanges across the state within a span of three years. Out of these, over 1.73 lakh are graduates, over 39,393 are postgraduates, 247 are Ph.D holders and 153 have MBBS degrees," the government said in a written reply to the Legislative Assembly, which is in session.
The information on unemployed youths registered between 2011-14 was sought by Congress MLA Dr Tejashree Patel on the last day of the session. Patel also asked the government to provide figures of highly educated, but unemployed youths, including youths having MBBS and Ph.D. degrees.
However, the government also clarified that the figure of unemployed youths is "far from reality as very few are completely unemployed."
"As per the provisions of National Service Manual, the name (of an individual) appears in the list of 'unemployed' until that person gets a permanent government job," the government said.
