Govt to Set Up University of Medicines

New Delhi, July 14, 2015: The government is planning to set up a University of Medicines which will also carry out documentation of diseases and its treatment through various traditional practices.

Union Health Minister J P Nadda said the university will be a repository of knowledge on communicable and non-communicable diseases and help broaden understanding towards traditional medicines and its benefits.

"The government will set up a University of Medicines, which will provide a place of pride to all schools of medicines including allopathic and traditional.

"This university will carry out documentation of diseases and their treatment and cure through various traditional practices," Nadda said.

"The University of Medicines will be a repository of all knowledge on communicable and non-communicable diseases and help us to broaden our understanding towards traditional medicines and its benefits," he said.

Addressing the 'Stop Diabetes Movement (SDM) All India Review meeting', organised by S-Vyasa University, Bengaluru, today, Nadda said that the prevalence of lifestyle related non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and others were on the "rise" in India and it has added to the burden of already existing communicable disease.

He further said that the new institute will do research in the field of lifestyle diseases and its cure with traditional as well as allopathic medicines.
