GATE 2017 Online Registration Dates Extended

The registration dates for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering - GATE 2017 entrance examination has been extended to October 10, 2016 until 11 am. The registration has been extended from October 4, 2016 to October 10, 2016. The application procedure for GATE 2017 began on September 1, 2016.

GATE is conducted for selection of candidates for admissions into post-graduate programmes including M.E., M.Tech and Direct Ph.D in centrally funded institutions like IISc Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Technology and others.

GATE 2017 is being organised by IIT Roorkee. The examination is scheduled to be held on February 4, 5, 11, and 12, 2017. GATE is held in 23 disciplines of engineering and science subjects, the exam gauges a candidate's understanding of a subject, aptitude and eligibility.

GATE 2017 Online Registration Dates Extended

Some government organisations, national, and state public sector undertakings in India also consider the scores of GATE examination for recruitment. This test is also open for candidates in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates. The scores of GATE is valid for 3 years.

In 2016 around 9.10 lakh students had applied for the test.

What is new in GATE 2017?

Some of the changes introduced in GATE 2017 are as follows:

  • A new section on atmospheric and oceanic sciences has been added to the engineering science paper, increasing the number of sections in the paper to eight
  • The test will be held in 2 sessions on February 4 - 5, 2017 and February 11 - 12, 2017
  • Now, the second choice of examination city need not be from the same zone as the first choice of examination city
  • Entire registration process of filling application forms, uploading certificates or documents will be online only. Candidates need not send any hard copy of their application form or documents to any of the IITs/IISc or zonal institutions
