WBJEE 2014: Counselling & Admission Procedure

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB), Kolkata is conducting the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE 2014) entrance examination for admission to undergraduate Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture courses in the State of West Bengal.

WBJEE 2014 is all set to be held on 19th & 20th April 2014.

According to the WBJEEB, this year candidates have to score zero marks or more in engineering entrance examinations, in order to get a call for counselling. Candidates whose total scores fall in the negative range will not be called for counselling.

For medical entrance examinations, candidates have to score 50% marks in both class 12th and JEE for general candidates, and 40% marks in class 12th and JEE for SC/ST candidates, in order to get a call for counselling.

Bhaskar Gupta, Chairman, WBJEEB excerpted, "The candidates would have to score ‘positive marks' in the engineering entrance exam to be called for the centralized counseling conducted by the board." The decision was taken as last year's decision created a lot of heat for the board for "allowing less meritorious students to study engineering."

Gupta also shared that, "The board had decided to reintroduce the 2012 system following a demand by some students who said every candidate who appeared in a competitive exam had the right to know his or her rank."

Detailed information regarding admission to the concerned universities / colleges and allotment of seats therein shall be made available in due course. It should be noted that being merit listed does not make a candidate eligible for admission to any concerned university / college.

Admission to MBBS course in medical colleges and BDS course in dental colleges will be done through e-counselling after publication of merit list of WBJEE-2014.

Seat allotment will be based on the rank / position in the Merit List of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) having regard to preferences for medical or dental colleges and subject to passing the qualifying examination satisfying the eligibility criteria.

The dates and time of commencement of the aforesaid counseling process will be notified in the website in due course.

Selected candidates for both the MBBS and BDS courses will have to furnish bonds giving an undertaking to serve the State Government anywhere in the State for a minimum period of 3 years after obtaining the degree.
