Details for IIIT-Delhi Ph.D courses' entrance exam

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-D) has announced admissions to full time Ph.D courses for the academic year 2014.

 

Ph.D courses offered are:

  • Ph.D (CSE)
  • Ph.D (ECE)

The shortlisted candidates will have to appear in a written entrance test and an interview (if shortlisted after the programming test) at IIIT-Delhi.

Documents to be brought to the test centre:

1) Shortlisted candidates must bring with them, the following documents for the purpose of verification of facts furnished in the application form.

  • One recent passport size photograph
  • Original mark sheets, degree and certificates (including X, XII, undergraduate, etc.)
  • Proof of date of birth and photo identification
  • Copies of all publications (if any)
  • GATE/GRE/TOEFL/other score card (if any)
  • Original copies of awards
  • Sponsoring Certificate (for sponsored candidates)
  • Any other document (in original form) that you have mentioned in the application form

2) Candidates must bring with them photocopies as well, of the above documents without fail.

3) In case the candidate's last semester exam is not yet over or the results have not yet been declared, candidates must bring mark sheets / grade cards of all the previous semesters whose results have been declared.

About the entrance test:

  • The written entrance test will have two sections (Part A and B).
  • Part-A is compulsory.
  • The questions will be on standard B.Tech. level concepts (M.Sc for non CS/IT areas).
  • The questions may be a mixture of multiple choice, fill in the blanks, one-two line answers, and similar short answers. They will not require long descriptive answers.
  • Use of calculators and similar computing devices will not be permitted.

How to apply for IIIT-D Ph.D courses?

Syllabus for the test:

Ph.D (CSE):

1) Part A will have questions from discrete maths, data structures, algorithms and programming concepts.

2) Part B will have the following subsection, which the candidates have to choose from, at the time of registration on the exam date:

  • Linear algebra, probability, statistics, logic
  • Computer networks, operating systems
  • Databases and software engineering
  • Computer hardware
  • Artificial intelligence, machine learning and image processing

Ph.D (ECE):

1) Part A will have questions from circuit theory, calculus and probability.

2) Part B will have the following subsection, which the candidates have to choose from, at the time of registration on the exam date:

  • Digital Circuits
  • Signals and Systems
  • Analog Circuits
  • Communication Systems

Interview details:

  • Shortlisted candidates (after the written test) will be interviewed on the same day.
  • Apart from general problem solving questions, the interview may also involve writing small code in C, Verilog/VHDL or microcontroller programming.
  • A final shortlist, based on the performance in the tests and the interview, will be the final list of admitted candidates.
  • All admission decisions (i.e. screening, shortlisting, and selection) made by the IIIT-D PhD Admission Committee will be final.

What can you study after postgraduate degree?

Important dates:

  • Last date for online application is 25th March 2014.
  • Last date to receive demand draft: 27th March, 2014 by 5 pm.
  • The written entrance test will be conducted on 5th April, 2014 at 9 am.
  • Registration time: 7:30 am
  • Interview for selected candidates: 5th April, 2014 at 2 pm
