DTE prepares Engineering seat matrix for Hyderabad-Karnataka students

To provide special reserved seats to the Hyderabad - Karnataka students, Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Bangalore has started preparing Engineering seat matrix for them.

DTE has decided to provide reservations to H-K region students from the next academic year in Common Entrance Test (CET).

Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic, Bangalore, officials have been asked by DTE to prepare a list of Government / Aided / Unaided Engineering colleges in this region. Officials also asked to prepare software to collect all the details of the students and prepare Engineering seat matrix, before commencement of CET.

On 26 November 2013, DTE had sent a letter to the Principal of Government S J Polytechnic colleges, has asked to prepare the list and complete it within one month.

"The reservation for Hyderabad-Karnataka students will change the present allotment of seats, merit lists and rosters not just in those six districts, but in other districts also. We have asked them to collect information pertaining to the intake (seats) in colleges in the H-K region and elsewhere. It is already December and we need to have a working model before March," DTE Director H U Talawar said.

"This is a precautionary step and we don't want to scout for cover in the last minute," he said.

"The software we used last year to prepare the seat matrix for engineering and diploma courses can't be used this time, as the special provision for the H-K region will result in many changes." he added.

According to the regulations of admission in Hyderabad-Karnataka region, Karnataka Educational Institutions Order 2013 notification says, there is an 70% reservation of seats in colleges located in Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Bibar, Koppal and Bellary Districts.

Around 8% reservation of seats are available in the institutions situated outside the H-K region.

Former Kuvempu University Vice-chancellor P Venkataramaiah said, "Students had nothing to worry about the H-K reservations, it would benefit to meritorious students. The Engineering seats matrix is prepared by considering the existing reservations for social groups."
