Don't issue fresh guidelines on nursery admission

New Delhi, November 4: The Delhi High Court Monday directed the city government not to issue fresh guidelines for nursery admission till the time it decides earlier petitions pending before it which had challenged the guidelines issued last year.

Justice Manmohan asked the Delhi government not to issue fresh guidelines till Wednesday when the court is likely to pass its order on the earlier pleas. The Lt. Governor had Dec 18 last year issued certain guidelines after which a bunch of petitions were filed against them.

The guidelines issued by the Lt. Governor had outlined many criteria, including the neighbourhood criteria, which sought that schools to give preference to children living within a radius of 6 km from the school. This criteria were given maximum weightage with 70 points out of 100 in open category seats. Later, the Lt. Governor enhanced the distance criteria to 8 km. Besides these, the applicants who have siblings studying in the same school were to get 20 points. Five points were to be added by default in applications of girls and wards of school alumni.
