Did you know the favourite snack of GRE aspirants?

According to a survey, Indian students preparing for the GRE test love to snack on potato chips. This study was conducted to find out the study habits of GRE test-takers across the world.

A release from Educational Testing Services (ETS), which develops and administers the test, said, "Indians revealed a great fondness for potato chips, compared to the rest of the world, with close to 32% of Indian respondents citing it as their favourite study-time snack."

Indians also appear to like ice cream with more than 9% citing it as their favourite food, compared to 4.5% of test-takers in the US. In general, fruit edged out all other options as the favourite GRE study-time food around the world. Fruits, nuts (including seeds and corn nuts), chocolates, potato chips and cookies were listed as the top five GRE study-time snacks.

Around 18,000 students from more than 150 countries shared their study habits and how they celebrated after taking the test in this poll.

The survey revealed that most candidates prepared only for a short duration for the test. The most common length of time students around the world, including those in India, spend preparing for the test is about one month to less than three months. Among those from India, a majority (around 44%) started preparing for the test just one to three months before the test.

India test-takers showed a high preference for online study groups. Forty percent reported that group study was a part of their preparation, compared to the global average of 21%. Home was the favourite place to study for students in India. More than 80% of students prepared at home.

More than 50,000 candidates take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) from India every year to pursue postgraduate studies abroad. Andhra Pradesh has traditionally been sending the most number of candidates for the test, followed by Delhi and Bangalore. Chennai and Mumbai share the fourth place.
