Delhi University Admission 2016: Announces schedule, new policy for PG

New Delhi: Delhi University announced the schedule and new policy for admissions to post graduate courses for the upcoming academic session.

 

The online registration for admissions to PG courses has started from April 28, 2016 and will end on May 24.2016

Entrance exam to be held at 6 centres:

In a first, the Delhi University will be holding the entrance exams at six centres across the country: Bengaluru, Nagpur, Delhi Jammu, Varanasi and Kolkata.

So, far the exams were only conducted in Delhi and the outstation students had to visit the national capital to write the exam.

The university has also done away with subjective question papers except for the foreign language courses. The changes in the admission policy have been made on basis of recommendations of an 18-member standing committee, comprising deans of various faculties.

Registrations started:

"The registration for admission to PG courses will start from April 28, 2016 evening and end on May 24, 2016. For the first time provisions have been made to conduct entrance examinations based on multiple choice questions at six centres," an official statement said.

Exam Dates:

"All exams will be conducted in MCQ format except in some cases of foreign languages including Persian in which subjective questions will be asked. All exams are likely to be held between June 19, 2016 and 23, 2016," it added.

Registration fee:

The registration fee for admission will be Rs 500 for unreserved and OBC categories and Rs 250 for SC/ST applicants.

There is a common application form for centralised registration for the applicants. Apart from those faculties and departments offering interdisciplinary or professional courses, all other departments reserves 50 per cent of the total seats in each programme for direct admission for students who has completed their undergraduate from DU.

Remaining 50 per cent seats are filled by entrance exams to be followed by interview (to be decided by individual departments).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidates should have a bachelors degree in the course for which they are applying and also must have scored the minimum percentage of marks required by the programme
  • For admission to a postgraduate programme in DU, there is no minimum age bar except for professional courses under regulatory authorities like Medical Council of India or Bar Council of India

Around 8,000 students are to be enrolled for the 2016-17 academic session.
