Mumbai, June 18: The first merit list for admission to degree colleges were put up in Mumbai recently.

Cut-offmarks in Mumbai colleges increase by 9%

Students who have scored 90% are finding difficult to take admissions in the self financed programme as the cutoff range is closed above 94% and 95% at most of the top colleges.

BMM and BMS cut-offs for students from Arts and Science has also shot up at most top colleges.

"Colleges such as KC College, Jai Hind College and Ruia College, also have a similar cut-off range. Students, who have scored above 95% in Science stream opted for self-financed programmes such as BMS and BMM," according to TOI.

Ruia College principal Suhas Pednekar said, "The HSC results were good this time. Many Science students are opting for self-financed programmes such as BMM and BMS. There is an increase in intake of BMM among students."

According to Indu Shahani, principal of HR College, BCom's cut-off has increased by 2% at her college, which resulted in demand for Commerce and related programmes such as BAF.

The high cutoff for the year have been hurdle for state board students to take admissions in the first merit list

Manju Nichani, principal of KC College, said "The cut-off for Arts shows that many students are interested in humanities. She added that the number of students from HSC and other boards was balanced at her college. "

"The cut-offs for Commerce remained at 94.2% while the cut-offs for Commerce students applying to BMS increased from 92.8% to 94.4%. The higher cut-offs for Science programmes in BMM and BMS courses may not depict the real picture, said Pednekar, as many high-scorers may cancel seats after securing admissions to medical and engineering courses."
