'Curriculum Management Information System’

Andhra Pradesh Nurses and Midwives Council (APNMC) is launching ‘Curriculum Management Information System' (CMIS), a website where information like status of permission to offer courses, number of students studying at the institute, laboratory facilities provided, etc. pertaining to nursing colleges will be displayed. This move is taken to aid students in making proper decisions while selecting a nursing college in the state.

Roja Rani, Registrar, APNMC said, "We gave permission to about 1,000 nursing institutes in the state which offer various programmes like MSc and BSc Nursing, Multi Purpose Health Workers (MPHW), etc.,. But students do not have a one-stop source where they can find details about colleges before joining them and some of them regret after joining one. The main objective of the website is to get information about all the institutes and keep it in public view. This will help students and parents to know about the colleges before getting admitted into it."

Details such as clinical facilities provided for different courses, curriculum followed, where do they send students for practice, number of seats approved and number of seats occupied, even if it is a community health centre, qualifications and number of faculty, hostel facility, etc, she states, should be provided by colleges located in the state.

Roja Rani said, " After the colleges send us the details, we will examine veracity of the information, only after that it will be displayed on the website." She said that about 3 months would be required to provide the details of all the colleges.

Ministry of health first developed this system for Gujarat Nursing Council, as a part of SNEH project. "The same organisation which developed the software for Gujarat Nursing Council is customising the software for us," Roja Rani added.
