With most of the applicants choosing core engineering streams, they seem to continue to be the top choice of students in Chennai.
Most students are seen choosing mechanical and electrical and communication engineering (ECE) during the admission counselling session which started yesterday.
Of the 1,256 seats that the authorities allotted on Day 1, 355 candidates opted for ECE. Mechanical engineering was the next most popular choice (313) and then computer science (245). A total of 41,815 seats are available in mechanical engineering and 38,421 seats in ECE.
A counselling official said they admitted around 150 students in the first batch. "Students mostly picked mechanical and ECE, but some students also opted for biotechnology and computer science," he said. "It was a mixed batch for the beginning of counselling. Students are aware of what they want."
Candidates also chose manufacturing engineering, biomedical engineering and aeronautical engineering.
