CBSE to hold NET 2014 exam on December 28

CBSE to hold NET 2014 exam on December 28

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting the National Eligibility Test (NET), 2014 which was earlier being conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The next CBSE NET will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2014.

The CBSE will conduct the examination in 79 subjects at 87 select NET coordinating institutes across India.

UGC used to conduct the UGC NET twice a year, that is, in the months of June and December. The test is conducted for Indian citizens aspiring for junior research fellowships (JRF) or assistant professorship or both.

The last UGC NET examination was held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 and more than 33,000 candidates had appeared for it. The examination had been conducted since 1989.

As per sources, the UGC commission is not fully equipped to conduct the examination at the national level. Hence, the responsibility has been given to the CBSE.

Although CBSE has a proven track record for holding national level examinations, UGC will lend its support to the board for conducting the NET, in terms of sharing resources, preparing question papers, etc.
