CBSE releases material for open book exam

Nagpur: Material for the CBSE mandatory Open text exam has been released. The exam is a part of the Summative Assessment II of Std IX, and annual examination of Std XI .

The open text based assessment (OTBA) is part of the overall assessment for which the material is provided directly by the board, a couple of months after the session starts.

Students are required to study the material in detail and later answer questions which are based on 'higher order thinking skills (HOTS)'.

Schools have been advised to refer to the curriculum available on official website of CBSE for year 2016. While the hindi versions of the open text material will be available shortly on the CBSE Academic Website.

Each text material includes sample questions and a suggestive marking scheme for use of teachers. The assessment must be done as a whole, considering the application of the knowledge gained by the students in the unit specified in the syllabus. CBSE has said that teachers must ensure that the students learn the concepts in related topics/units and also assessed during formative assessments.

The subject teachers concerned are expected to ensure that students read, discuss and analyze the material with regard to objectives, concepts involved, application of concepts to given situations, description and further exploration of the case, problem, situation involved, enhancement of higher order thinking skills involved and different perspectives.

The OTBA will be held along with the regular final exam in summer next year.
