CBSE: 8,000 Metal Detectors To Curb Malpractice in Exam

New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is contemplating to buy 8,000 metal detectors inorder to regulate the unfair practices, being followed by the students during professional examinations.

It is said that students were using hi-tech gadgets while appearing for the exams.

The CBSE conducts tests like JEE (Main), AIPMT and UGC-NET.

According to a tender notice issued by CBSE, candidates will be frisked before entering the examination centre for detection of bugs or devices by use of highly sensitive hand-held bug and metal detectors. Using metal detectors helps in curbing any unfair use of electronic devices

"We have mainly used this kind of frisking in some professional examinations earlier also. But we hired metal detectors which was proving to be a costly proposition. So the CBSE is planning to buy them," a senior official said.

Metal Detectors to detect prohibited electronics devices:

As per the tender document, the bug or metal Detectors should enable to detect any prohibited metallic or electronics devices such as copper, aluminium, silver, wire, cell battery, watch battery, miniature electronic gadget or photovoltaic equipment, etc.

CBSE also ensured that the priority will be given for indigenous electronic products as per the government policy.

The CBSE which has more than 17,000 schools, including 200 in 21 countries outside India, has invited bids for 8,000 bug and metal detectors.
