In next five years, Birla Institute of Technology and Science plans to expand its campuses in Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa and Dubai. An expenditure of Rs 1,600/- crore has been set aside to be spend to expand all its campuses.
BITS Pilani also plans to increase the number of the seats of the courses offered by the institute. Currently BITS has 11,600 seats which will increase to 6,900 seats, which would make the total number of seats 18,500.
However, BITS is not planning to establish a new campus, despite several requests from many states and cities.
According to the officials, an amount Rs 360 crore in overall expenditure, has been earmarked for the expansion of the Hyderabad campus. The officials also plan to increase of intake of seats from 3,000 to 5,000 seats.
It has been noticed that BITS Pilani has joined partnership with edx to offers online courses.
There is an acute shortage of quality faculty in India, which can be tackled by adopting latest technological facilities, including online courses and virtual classrooms, officials said.
Moreover, BITS will provide top-quality online programmes to on-campus students. Candidates from all over the world can take part in the programmes.
