Aligarh Muslim University to allow women students to enter library

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has agreed to open a Maulana Azad Library for women students and provide extra security in the area.

Allahabad high court has order AMU to open separate library for women students in its campus, which is one of the best in Asia.

Earlier, the University had argued that women students were barred from entering the library due to unavailability of space and security issues. Since the women college is 3.5 Km away from the main campus. But, HC dismissed the argument and asked to provide security.

AMU to open library for women students

Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah said, "If we allow girls into the library, there will be four times more boys".

HRD Minister Smriti said in a written statement that keeping women students out of the library is violation of 'Human Rights'. I demand a report on that. "Not only hurt me as women but agitates. It is an insult to daughters", she said.

Replying to the HRD Minister's question, Shah said, "There are 4,000 undergraduate girls. If we allow them, we will not have space. Plain and simple - we can't allow them into the library. We are not against women's empowerment." The capacity of the library is 1,300 people.

Shah also said that women college have their library, and they can go there. Around 2,500 women students were barred from entering the one of Asia's best library.
