USPs of the programme: MSc Trauma Sciences, offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at UK-based University of Southampton, is an innovative programme that has been launched in partnership with the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. It offers the students an in-depth knowledge of a patient's journey following trauma and enhances their skills for managing trauma. The programmeendows its students with the expertise to improve their patients'health from initial trauma injury to rehabilitation, health restoration and further prevention.
This programme facilitates direct observation and reflection on the practice of major trauma care in both the Major Trauma Centre and the wider major trauma system. It is patient-focused, thusemphasising on exploring the physical and psychosocial changes that occur for both the patient and their dear ones,they learn about trauma team management of seriously injured individuals, changes in care delivery systems and clinical governance. It equipslearners with the knowledge and understanding to provide the highest standard of trauma care.
Primary modules of this course include Major Trauma Systems - Evidence Base and Delivery, Fundamental Science in Major Trauma, Human Factors and Decision Making, a Major Trauma Practicum, Research Methods and Evidence Based Practice, along with a choice of two other modules (either Paediatric Trauma or Major Trauma in the Older Person) and a dissertation to test their learning and application skills.
Course Duration: 2 years full time
Career Prospects for Course Graduates: Course graduatesspecialise in the field of trauma and undertake senior clinical roles or postgraduate research as per their preference.
Eligibility Criteria: The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject with a 2:2or above Grade/GPA. S/hemust be a registered health professional working with a trauma setting.Applications from mature applicants who meet the criteria for admission are also welcomed. The applicants must have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 along with a reading, writing, speaking and listening score of 6.
