About 30 technological institutes deny fee change

About 30 technical colleges of Gujarat, have told the fee regulatory committee (FRC) for technical education that they have no intentions to increase or decrease the fee for the next year.

They have told FRC that if they increase the fee, students will not take admission from next year and if they scale it down, it will not be good for their reputation.

The committee is said to announce the fee structure in the next 10 days. FRC had sent notices to more than 100 colleges, recommending that their fees should be reduced. The notices were served after the committee took up the data analysis of infrastructure and academics of these colleges and found that the institutions were charging fees more than justified and indulging in profiteering.

The committee has found that 22% of 500 technical education colleges in the state should reduce their fees. The committee has given three options to these colleges.

"We have asked them if they agree to the reduction; if they have any objection, they should approach the committee members and present their case with their own data analysis. The last option is for those colleges which have approached us in the past expressing a desire to reduce their fee structure to attract more students," said a source in the committee.
