80 IIT Madras students bagged jobs on first day of placements

Around 80 final year students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has bagged a job offers from multinational companies on the first day of the placement process on December 01, 2014.

 

The highest salary package offered by an MNC was Rs 80.47 lakhs and Rs 30 lakh by an Indian company.

The Advisor of training and placement, Faculty member of Mechanical Department at IIT Madras, Prof. Babu Viswanathan said that a MNC IT company had offered Rs 80.47 ($129,500) to a student on the first day of placement process.

He said, "We have a policy not to reveal the student's name and the companies don't want us to call them as it involves a lot of risks. One student at IIM with a big salary was kidnapped a few years ago. This year core placements appear to be very promising, and we are hoping for an increase in placements in this sector."

The placement process at IIT Madras was started on December 01, 2014. Around 17 students had got job offers from 7 MNCs. During the forenoon session, around 13 companies had offered jobs to 64 students.

The number of companies registered for placements are 762, which is more than last year 372. The placement process would go on until December 15, 2014.

As per the reports, students are saying that this year the job offers are promising with several firms, which also includes start-up and analytics companies. Very few of the students opted out from the placement process.
