6 Indian students have obtained the esteemed Gates Cambridge scholarships to pursue studies in the United Kingdom.
These students are among the 54 of the most academically outstanding and socially committed students in the world, from 28 different countries.
These students frm different countries and backgrounds will start their PG studies at the Cambridge Universiites in October 2015.
The 54 candidates were picked from a total of 3,535 applicants, based on their intellectual aptitude, leadership skills, academic suitability with Cambridge and their commitment towards the betterment of the lives of others.
According to officials of the Gates Cambridge Trust, the selected scholars are individuals who are remarkable and truly inspiring. During the interview, they displayed their alignment with the mission of the scholarship, through their commitment towards applying their academic acumen plus leadership skills in improving the lives of others. The institute looks forward to their impact in the future as Gates Cambridge Alumni, added the officials.
The six Indians selected will pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sociology, Psychology, Bio Science, Geography and Biological Science.
The 54 scholars who were selected during the International selection round will join 40 American Gates Cambridge scholars, who were chosen after interview sessions in the United States (US) in February this year.
The Gates Cambridge scholarship was launched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the year 2000. It is awarded on an annual basis to the most brilliant scholars in the world.
