50% of M.E / M.Tech seats lying vacant

More than 50% of M.E / M.Tech seats are lying vacant in Anna University, even after the counselling.

According to the University officials, only a total of 5,377 seats out of 20,618 seats were filled by the non-gate candidates, leaving 15,241 seats.

Around 569 out of 1,186 seat were filled by the GATE candidates in Anna University. There are two more days left for the counselling.

Anna University conducts Tamil Nadu Common Admissions (TANCA) 2014 counselling for admission to M.E, M.Tech, M.Arch and M.Plan degree programmes.

The admission will be conducted for M.E, M.Tech, M.Arch, M.Plan degree programmes offered in the University departments / constituent colleges, government, government aided engineering colleges, and self financing engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu for the seats surrendered for admission through single window (TANCA 2014) counselling.

One of the engineering student said that, the candidates who seek a career in teaching / research would do M.E / M.Tech courses. If candidates want to be teachers/professors, they also have to do a Ph.D, which will take another five years. So it is bound to take a total of 7 years.

Today, most of the public sector undertakings look for undergraduate candidates with good GATE scores to offer them jobs.
