50 crore youth to be imparted job skills by 2025

Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju has said 50 crore youth will be trained and provided employment opportunities in different sectors by the end of 2025.

These youths, studying in ITIs, polytechnic and other vocational streams in the country, will be trained and made job ready under the Centre-sponsored Prime Minister Skill Development Mission set up last year, he said.

Raju was speaking after laying the foundation stone for construction of an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Kakinada, over 60 km from here in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district.

The Union government has sanctioned 20 IIITs in the country, including three in Andhra Pradesh. Of these two have come up at Hyderabad and Chittoor, the Congress Lok Sabha MP from Kakinada said.

"Andhra Pradesh has secured a vital position in IT sector in the country. These IIITs in Andhra Pradesh will help in providing infotech education to a large number of youths. The IIIT here will benefit the coastal Andhra people."

After the introduction of the Right To Education (RTE) Act, nearly 25 crore children have been enrolled in various schools the country, the minister said. The IIIT at Kakinada, spread over 100 acres, will cost Rs 180 crore.
