36 private companies signs MoU with Haryana Agricultural University

As many as 36 private seed companies from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh has signed MoUs with Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University to obtain production and marketing rights of a yellow rust disease-resistant wheat variety.

This is the second time in a span of one month that such a large number of private seed companies have come forward to get licenses from the university.

Seed firms sign MoUs with Agricultural University

Last month, 38 companies have signed MoUs for WH-1105 variety of wheat with the university. Speaking on the occasion, CCSHAU Director of Research S S Siwach asked the companies to maintain quality of seed of this variety to benefit farmers.

He disclosed that one more variety of wheat, WH-1124 had also been identified for cultivation and from next year its breeder sead would be made available to the seed companies.

He said that WH-1105 is suitable for cultivation under irrigated and timely sown conditions in north west plain zone of the country.

Apart from yellow rust, the variety is also resistant against several other diseases. It gives average yield of 52.5 q/ha in 144 days. Besides, it has protein content as high as 12.5 per cent.
