Foreign Professors Strive To Join IIM-Ahmedabad

The professors from foreign universities seem to strive hard, to join IIM-Ahmedabad. But, what is drawing them towards IIM-A?

 

Well, the appointment of Harvard Law School Professor Ashish Nanda, as the director of the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad has attracted faculty members from foreign varsities. They are now planning to join the leading business schools across India.

According to source, out of 7 new faculty members appointed from January to September 2013, excluding Professor Nanda, 3 faculties are from foreign universities.

However, it seems like IIM-A is the most preferred institute by faculties in Foreign universities. Till now, the faculty strength at IIM-Ahmedabad is 91. With the sanctioned limit of 120 faculty members, the institute is hopeful of attracting global talent.

A senior faculty member of IIM-A said, "Prof Nanda's appointment has encouraged more world class talent to teach at IIM-A, be it taking up short term assignments or on a permanent basis. We are already seeing a change in the recruitment pattern."

At present, IIM-A has one of the finest faculty members in the world, with more than half the faculty members having PhDs from prominent universities abroad, he said.

Most of them have prior experience at eminent business schools, such as the London Business School, the University of Texas at Austin, the McGill University, the Tulane University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he added.
