Rs 88.4 Lakhs funded for Research and Development Projects of LPU

LPU gets Rs. 88.4 lakhs for R&D Projects
Jalandhar: Research initiatives of LPU- Lovely Professional University this year got a major boost as five of its projects in the advanced areas of different disciplines have been granted funding of Rs 88.4 lakh.

Different Faculty of LPU formulated and applied for research proposals and received coveted funding from various prestigious government agencies. DST-SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board from Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Sc & Tech) has funded Rs 27.60 lakhs for Pharmacy project 'Self Nano emulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) for oral delivery of polypeptide- k for effective management of diabetes mellitus: design and optimization'.

CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) sanctioned Rs 20.5 lakhs for Physics project-'Self-focusing of ultra-short laser pulses in plasmas under density transition'. DST has also come forward for two projects in separate fields of Physics and Bio-technology with Rs 13.5 Lakhs & Rs 20.5 Lakhs, respectively.

These projects are 'Investigation of H2CS and H2CC molecules in interstellar space' and 'Molecular mechanism of Mycorrhizal symbiosis during the drought in finger millet: Eleusine coracana (L) Gaertn'. Similarly, DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) has sanctioned Rs 9.8 Lakhs for Bio-technology project- 'Study of micro-fauna in the Rhizosphere of Hppophae Rhamnoides L (Sea-buckthorns) growing at different altitudes of Himalayan Region'.

Expressing immense happiness for the recognition and approval of projects from the supreme authorities of R&D, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: "I am immensely pleased to note that LPU's mission for research and development has been well supported by high-status government agencies.

This will indeed be a great encouragement to our faculty and students for the furtherance of R&D endeavours of theirs." Mr Mittal informed: "Along with the sanctioning of 5 projects, LPU has been successful in getting 6 patents filed, 328 publications and 24 project submissions. University has also dedicated a Research Block with huge space to motivate university researchers and developers for national and international projects."

He also added: "LPU always values and supports research activities, and LPU faculty is encouraged to forward research proposals to various national and international funding bodies. To initiate research activities and to assist faculty in getting research funding from related agencies, various guidelines are made available for faculty, staff and students time to time."

During 2013-14, session, about 234 national & international level research projects have been targeted by more than 1000 PhDs & Masters faculty members and students from faculties of Science and Technology, Business Administration & Arts, Education & Humanities, and Applied & Medical Sciences. In addition, 575 publications are to be made in SCI Journals; Submissions are to be made for 12 patents, and 27 Copyrights.

Moreover, after successfully developing Formula Racing Car, Driver-less Car operated with remote control from any part of the world etc, students are now engaged on Tram Project to have tram service in the entire area of the campus.
