Arunachal Pradesh giving priority to Education & Sports

Itanagar, Jul 22 (PTI): The Arunachal Pradesh government has attached top priority not only to education but games and sports sector too, as both sectors are crucial for human development, Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy has said.

Inaugurating a cricket tournament at Palin in remote Kurung Kumey district yesterday, Sanjoy stressed on health is wealth principle and enlisted the scope the sports sector offers, official sources said today.

Pointing out that Arunachal was one of the first states in North Eastern region to offer 10 per cent job reservation to sportspersons, the MP exhorted the youth to prove their excellence as 400 posts were still lying vacant in the police department alone.

However, he cautioned that without discipline nothing could be achieved in life, particularly in sports.

He said that many Arunachalees have excelled in weightlifting, soccer, badminton, karate and Taekwondo at national and global level reflecting their inborn talent.

A good number of Arunachalees scaling the Everest is another glittering proof, he justified. In all 12 teams are taking part in the tourney, sources added.
