All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body under Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India enacted by the Parliament through AICTE Act 1986 with a view for proper planning and coordinated development of technical education system throughout the country.
CMAT:
AICTE in its mission to reduce the burden of students in attending to multiple examinations has launched the first national level Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)-2012 for facilitating institutions to select suitable students for admission in all management programs approved by AICTE from year 2012-13.
The initiative was taken to address the issue ofphysical, mental and financial stress being imposed on the students through number of entrance examinations being followed by the institutions for admission into all Management Programmes in AICTE approved institutions.
AICTE further decided to conduct CMAT twice a year from 2013 for facilitating institutions to select suitable students for admission in all management programmes approved by AICTE. The first round is conducted in September and second in February. The scores are awarded and All India Merit List is prepared for both the examinations. Better of the two scores are used for admission.
AICTE has now decided to conduct CMAT in Foreign Countries for facilitating eligible NRIs/PIOs and foreign nationals to appear in CMAT for seeking admission in institutions in India following CMAT merit list for 2014-15 under special provisions defined in AICTE Approval Process and against all vacancies left after completion of centralized admission in management institutions.
Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for admission for academic year 2014-15 will also be conducted twice and the candidates will be given two opportunities to appear in CMAT; first in September, 2013 and Second in February, 2014. The better of two scores will be used for admission for 2014-15.
Advantages of CMAT:
- The National level test will be conducted for five days from 26th to 30th September, 2013 in two shifts at 62 cities/locations in India and five cities/locations in foreign countries.
- CMAT will be a computer based test for three hours duration.
- The common admission test will reduce the burden on candidates due to appearance in multiple tests.
- CMAT scores will help students seek admissions in all management programmes (4 lakh seats) in AICTE approved Institutions / University Departments.
