About 46 colleges (including PU, Degree, Engineering, Pharmacy and Polytechnic Colleges) across Karnataka make use of an App which is redefining the way academic chores are traditionally managed by colleges which is from a Bangalore-based company- Ipomo.
Before you proceed further you may ask What Ipomo is? Well, as mentioned above it is a Bangalore based company founded in 2008 and angel funded by Rajeev Kuchhal, former vice president, Infosys, and former COO, On-Mobile; and Sanjeev Joshi, former vice president, Infosys. They started in 2009 with an app to enable students applying for the CET to take a mock test.
The most amazing fact is that in these colleges, a professor uses a tablet-like device in the class to mark students attendance, and after the class he enters the syllabus he has covered for the day/hour. The details/updates of the students, teachers, syllabus and more are updated on the central server which is visible to the Principal, HoD, students as well as their parents too.
Tests are also being conducted for students on the Mobile Phone. Isn't the education world changing?
After the first CET went live successfully, the next year had a partnership with Base and was further taken by 3380 students of 50 colleges in 9 towns. Again this year, Ipomo improvised the app, making it a portal of 'Rooms', or a collection of services. Ipomo also launched a Goodnight Test.
This app has a Campus Finder which helps students and parents to filter colleges based on location and stream. Moreover, colleges are also filtered based on the cut-offs of previous years CET admissions.
Today, the app is being used by 42,302 students across PU, Degree, Engineering and MBA streams along with 8327 students in CET room, and more than 70% of students are using the Campus Finder.
All announcements and circulars which are to be displayed on notice boards, fee payment, holiday and more updates are now sent through this app. And Parents are aware of their wards attendance via this app.
