Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has started the Medical/ Dental Courses counseling on July 2nd & 3rd, 2013 with the huge rush.
For the first time, ComedK is conducting the counseling ahead of KCET. Students and parents from all over the country arrived in Bangalore for medical courses counseling.
Comedk had commenced the counseling at NMKRV women's college at Jayanagar. Students are in the rush to attend the counseling. Near college traffic jam also reported.
On the first day of counseling around 537 medical seats were selected out of 683 seats. Only 146 seats left vacant for the Wednesday counseling. A total of 744 dental seats available for counseling.
There are 683 medical seats in the COMEDK quota, apart from 744 dental, 17,150 engineering, and 300 architecture seats.
Earlier, State Government requested ComedK to postpone the counseling till KEA announce the seat matrix.
"Counseling is conducting in favor of private management colleges to fall vacant of govt seats," one of the student father said.
Pavan Kumar, a student from Mangalore aspiring for MBBS seat in M S Ramaiah Medical College said, "I have gotten 6000 rank in both ComedK & CET. But the fees structure for the ComedK colleges were too high,"
At centre, There is an immense rush for the counseling. Some of the parents standing near the parking area and sit on the foot path waiting for their round of the counseling.
Prashanth, a student from Andhra Pradesh said, "I came for to choose MBBS seat in Bangalore Medical College and but I didn't get the seat, so I withdraw the seat,"
Most parents and students who had arrived at the counseling centre in NMKRV College, Jayanagar was seen questioning the officials about the timing of the counseling as they felt the CET counseling should have happened first.
Diana Sajan from Kerala said the counseling for government seats in her State too had not started. Another parent from Dharwad was seen asking if his son could attend the second round of counseling instead of the first, so as to see if the boy could get a seat under CET first.
The COMEDK is giving the students the option of surrendering seats by July 11 or 13.
