IIT Kharagpur To Start Medical Courses
IIT Kharagpur (Indian Institute of Technology) has sanctioned a 400-bed super speciality hospital on the campus which will have a medical college attached to it. With all these plans, their main main is to start offering Medical Courses. Yes, very soon IIT Kharagpur will be owning a Medical Campus.

On the other hand, this will be the only one technology institute offering medical courses.

In order to bring these plans in into reality, a 45 acre plot has been marked for what promises to be a modern green building with minimal energy consumption at the south-east-end of the premises.

It is likely expected that the constructions starts before the Durga Pooja. Moreover, the Centre and IIT Kharagpur have chosen a public sector enterprise HSCC for this project.

HSCC professional consultancy services in the health care sector to both state run and private hospitals. The Director of IIT Kharagpur, SK Som said "It is in the process of finalising the architect who will prepare the building plan, according to specifications of our own civil constructions cell."

Though the master's degree course in medical technology offered by this institute has got popular across the country, the plan is to meet with both technical and start medical education too.

Director Som said "We will have both Medical and Educational tie-ups with AIIMS."

If the Rs 230 crore required for the project, Rs 150 crore will be given by the Centre and the institute has to arrange the rest. The Centre has already sent in an initial amount of Rs 75 crore.
