AICTE should introduce New Subjects
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) should focus on introducing new technical subjects as per the demand of students, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here today.

Chandy was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new office of AICTE for Kerala and Lakshadweep in the Government Engineering College here. Union Minister for HRD Shashi Tharoor presided over the function.

Oommen Chandy has laid the foundation- stone for the regional office on a 50-cent plot near the CET on Tuesday at 11 a m. Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor and Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb will attended the function.

AICTE sources said Kerala affairs, now being looked after by a temporary office at the College of Engineering and Technology, will be shifted to the the new office, which would act as a guidance centre for over 300 technical institutions in the state.

As technical institutions must get AICTE approval every year, a centre has to be set up to act as a guidance centre for these institutions, the sources said.

The State has about 321 technical institutions, including 150 engineering colleges, 80 MBA institutes and institutions offering polytechnic, hotel management and pharmacy education.
