Poor Students To Benefit by Medical Colleges across Districts. How?

Poor students who are willing to study higher education are always put off for being very poor as they can't afford the fees in schools and colleges. Though RTE has made free education for these poor students most of schools across India are not interested in following them. In such situation, health care facility was much far away to think of for the poor.

Here is great news for them. Yes! The State Government has hereby proposed to establish Medical colleges in each one of the districts for the benefit of poor students and to ensure the availability of quality healthcare facility everywhere.

Minister of State for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil, who held a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R.V. Deshpande here on Wednesday, told "the government has decided to set up medical colleges in each one of the districts to ensure seats for all meritorious students at subsidized fee." This will also ensure quality healthcare facility for all: Minister said. Several districts in the State do not have government-run medical colleges and private medical colleges charge an exorbitant fee for admissions to both MBBS and post-graduate courses.

In the 12 Five Year Plan, the Union government has planned to support the States to set up medical colleges in backward areas. The proposed scheme envisages the creation of more MBBS seats. It would help improve the availability of doctors in the State.

He also revealed "the department would take steps to address the problem of shortage of doctors in rural health facilities by making rural service mandatory for MBBS graduates and post-graduates in medicine."

"Dr. Patil said that he has decided to bring in reforms in the department to ensure quality healthcare to all patients visiting government-run hospitals. Steps would be taken to address issues related to shortage of doctors in government hospitals, and health centres, shortage of doctors, and buildings, etc" the Minister said.

With no Government-run hospitals, the poor people had suffered a lot of not being eligible to afford the demand of Private hospitals and more. This initiative taken up by the Government is expected to be more helpful for them.
