Rush For PU Admissions Across State
Students who are done with their class X examination across various boards are now aspiring to take admissions in junior colleges. Just a day after the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations results were announced, anxious parents and students have lined up near Pre-University Colleges across the state to get applications for their wards for admissions to the first year PU courses.

There is a huge rush of students and parents since early morning starting from 8 am across the state. Following directions from the state Pre-University Education Department, colleges affiliated to PU department started issuing application forms from Tuesday. The last date to issue applications as per the notification issued by the department is May 11, 2013, which is fifth working day after the announcement of SSLC results.

However, to avoid college managements harassing parents by collecting excess fee for application forms and prospectus, the department has fixed a fee. This year the application fee should not exceed Rs21 and even the same can be downloaded from the department website and be submitted at concerned colleges.

"Colleges have been warned not to collect more than Rs21 for the applications. The prospectus should not be sold along with application forms, and if the parents want to buy the prospectus, the colleges must sell them separately," said Mattur, joint director PU department.

Students and parents need to submit the filled applications by May 15, 2013 and the colleges must announce the merit list by May 21, 2013. According to officials from the department, the demand for PU courses will be high this time following a higher passing percentage at the SSLC examinations.

"We have been permitted to set up some new PU colleges, and there is no question of shortage of seats. There are enough PU colleges to cater to all students as of now," said another official from the PU department.
