TN: 84000 Engg Applications Sold on Day1
Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Committee started issuing Application forms from May 4 (Saturday) onwards. It seems like Engineering courses are gaining more importance and craze among students of TN.

Around 84,000 Applications are sold on the Day 1. Applications are available only till 20th May. Students who are eagerly waiting for admissions in Engineering colleges need not wait for the last date to apply. Do not miss the opportunity now. Make use of the time, so that you study Engineering in your favorite college.

Clearly filled application forms and related documents are to be submitted on or before 20th May.

Anna University, which co-ordinates engineering admissions to government quota seats in the state, sold 84,064 applications. On the corresponding day, last year, 85,000 applications are sold.

"We expect to reach the same number as last year by the last day of sales," said Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions committee secretary V Rhymend Uthariaraj. The university has printed 2.5 lakh application forms, 1.8 lakh applications are sent to 58 centres outside Chennai.

This year, students will have a choice of more than 520 colleges, and an estimated 2 lakh government quota seats, including those added by new colleges and additional intake in existing institutions. Eight new colleges are expected to join the list soon.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to allow students from SC, ST and SCA communities with 35% eligibility marks to apply to take part in the single window counselling session for now. The information booklet says, "SC / SCA / ST candidates who have secured 35% to below 40% aggregate in the relevant subjects may also apply. The consideration of their applications will be subject to the outcome of SLP preferred by the Tamil Nadu government against the judgment of the Madras High Court."

Officials said that the government took the decision to allow SC / ST candidates with 35% marks to apply for the admission process hoping for a favourable verdict. The names won't be included in the rank list till the ruling is given, but the students are unlikely to be affected as they will be called for counseling only towards the end of the admission process, by which time the court would have delivered the verdict.
