This year, the exams were conducted earlier than usual; it commenced on March 7 last year. Earlier, the results were announced towards the end of May.
The sources revealed that "The early scheduling is because of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) being conducted for the first time by the central government for admissions to medicine and dentistry seats across the country."
"As NEET is scheduled for May 5, while the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET), for admissions to engineering and pharmacy seats in the state, will be on May 8."
Sources said, the Goa board wants to announce the Class XII results on a date not too close to GCET so as not to affect the morale of students. NEET candidates are not a concern as they generally consist of the cream of Class XII students, who are bound to perform well, sources added.
The early results are also in view of the board's system of re-evaluation and will allow time for the corrected scores to reflect in the marks sent to Delhi for preparation of the centralized NEET merit list.
Sources said the board will evaluate students this year with both, marks and grades. Results of all four streams-arts, science, commerce and vocational-will be announced on the same day.
Oneindia Education wishes Goa class 12 students 'The Very Best' for results.
