Previously, the examination used to be held for a period of 20 days or more. Now, the entire process has been reduced to 5 days.
Gopal Krishna, Director of Brain Tree Coaching Centre said "This is on account of the changes introduced in the examination. As there are more compulsory papers and only one optional, the entire process can be completed much faster".
He added "The reduced timings will be a major advantage for the working professionals as they need only a few day of leave to appear for the examination".
Experts feel that the UPSC seems to have postponed the examination as it had to issue a fresh notification of the Civil Service (Mains) examination. The commission introduced a few changes in the exam pattern in the first notification which was issued last month.
However, following uproar in both the house of the parliament over the proposed changes, the commission had to issue a fresh notification by retaining the same pattern of examination as that of last year.
Moreover, experts also feel that students deserve the extra time for preparation. Hence, it is fair that the examination is postponed by a month time.
