Distance Education On Esteemed Cost
Odisha: The Universities of State have been offering education at a normal rate in the regular mode education, say for about at Rs.12 to 14 as tuition fee per month. But, for distance education, Utkal University has been demanding fees that is 10 times higher than the regular courses.

For instance, as per the sources- A candidate doing his MA Degree in any state university in subjects such as History, Odia, Political Science, among others spend Rs. 2000 on Course fee, Tuition fees, Admissions and other related fees in two years. But, to do the same courses in Distance mode, the situation is not the same. Because, for distance education a candidate pays for about Rs.18000 in Utkal University. Hence Distance Edu'n strength in Odisha is lying weak.

According to the sources it is said that other than the annual courses fees of Rs.7000 and examination fee of Rs.1000 A corpus fee is also charged by this University around Rs.3000 and soft skill development charge (SSDC) of Rs.1500 to 3000 from distance learners.

Moreover, the corpus fee is not used for the students in any way while students said there are hardly any skill development initiatives such as communication or computer expertise programmes. Whereas, Sambalpur University and Berhampur University does not charge any of these two charges for distance education. In-fact the fees is lesser when compared to Utkal University.

For Undergraduate in Utkal University a single course cost for about Rs.12000 to 15000 for three years in distance mode compared to around Rs.800 to 1000 fee demanded by the Government in the regular mode in state colleges. Though the government does not charge tuition fees from girls at the UG or PG level in regular mode education.
