JK Govt Silence Over NEET Test
The Jammu & Kashmir State government is not showing any interest in conducting the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) not their state Postgraduate Medical Entrance Test (PGMET) for PG Medical Courses.

Around the 2,000 MBBS qualified PG aspirants continues to be in dark regarding the PGMET status, with the authorities having assured them only verbally to conduct it at state level.

Earlier this month, the government surprised the aspirants with its late declaration about to change in the status of the PGMET from state level to National level. On a Short notice, the aspirants were asked to submit the forms for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) to be conducted in November.

Later, after objections were raised by the aspirants, the authorities are said to have decided to stick to the state level test conducted annually by the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE).

However, no formal notification has been issued in this regard, leaving the aspirants guessing. "After the cabinet meeting, we were told by the college authorities that the examination, like all previous years, will be held at the state level and consequently, we did not apply for NEET. But till date is is just a verbal assurance. We do not know what is going to happen in future", a female applicant said to media.

She again told that, in the official website of NEET still shows, Jammu and Kashmir is in the list of the National level test. It is so frustrating all of us.

The uncertainty about the date of the test is only adding to the applicants discomfort till date, the authorities are said to have changed two statements regarding the date of the test.

A group of applicants shared, "First they said the state level test will be held in February. Then they changed it to November on the basis that from next year the applicants may have to appear in NEET in the same month. But there is no official statement about the date of the examination. It is troubling us further, while most of the candidates did not apply for NEET, several candidates from the previous batch might have already completed the formalities".

"There are candidates from previous batches we do not know anything about. There are candidates who do MBBS from Bangladesh and other places and even candidates from Jammu. We have no idea how many have applied for NEET already. The only source of information we have is the newspaper and word of mouth. There is no notice coming from the government's side". added group of applicants.
