Sale of MBBS and BDS Seats In Punjab
Recently Punjab Government had allowed a free hand to all Private Medical Colleges to fill in Vacant NRI seats. Well, the sale is ON. According to sources, it was officially allowed for an extra fee of Rs. 4Lakh per seat for MBBS and Rs.1.5 lakh for BDS, but with aspirants willing to spend a fortune for the 'Dr' tag, and agents issuing news papers advertisements.

Possibly, it does not matter what's your rank in the Punjab Pre-medical Entrance Test (PMET), all you need is the right amount, usually upwards of Rs. 50 lakh. After a random scan of ads, we called up Jalandhar-based Bharat Mahajan, who offers 'Admission Guidance 2012-13 for MBBS in Punjab under NRI/Lapse Quota seats'. He clarified that he will be able to ensure admission in only private colleges, not the government ones. The payment plan was as half the money before admission and the rest of the money after the work is successfully done.

Later, when other agent was contacted, they initially did not mention any names, and a women who picked up the call too refused to reveal her identity. Further, when we told that the ranking was 812, she quickly named the institute in Malwa and said that the package is worth Rs. 50 Lakh. After a little haggling she finally agreed to a discount of Rs.1 Lakh.

This, a day after a Punjab Government notification allowed private medical colleges to conduct their own counselling for seats in the 15% NRI quota that remain vacant. So, what do you think about this issue? Share your views on the sale of BDS and MBBS seats in such a manner?
