The accreditation is valid fro five years. A team of AMA official has visited the campus on August 13-14 to evaluate the institute for the accreditation. Other Indian B-Schools with AMBA accreditation are IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, MDI Gurgaon and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR).
Dr. Pritam Singh, Director General, IMI said, "We received the official accreditation confirmation letter from the AMBA Association on Friday, Sept 07, 2012".
Dr. Pritam Singh said the prestigious international accreditation is a matter of pride for the institution.
"We are indeed delighted to receive the AMBA accreditation. This proves that the intellectual resources and processes at IMI meet the global standards. With this accreditation, we have joined the league of global B-Schools," He said.
IMI New Delhi was established in 1981. IMI is one among the india's top B-Schools. IMI has added a two campuses at Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. The institute is also accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS).
AMBA CEO, Sharon Bamford had said at least three B-schools from India were actively pursuing AMBA Accreditation.
According to Ms Bamford, more international accreditation to Indian B-Schools will help the management environment in the country and bring global competence n attracting students from other asian countries and emerging markets. There are excellent academics in India and there is a strong foundation of high standards in education.
The Association of MBAs is the international impartial authority on postgraduate business education. AMBAs accreditation service is the global standard for all MBA, DBA and MBM programmes. AMBA accredit MBA provision at 198 schools in over 70 countries.
