It has been rightly said that the end may not always justify the means. Behind the facade of 'Welcoming' freshers to colleges, ragging in actuality is a notorious practice wherein the senior students get an excuse to harass their junior students more often.

With the beginning of the new academic session, strict instructions to control ragging on campus have been given by educational institutes here and the district administration. Students at IIT Kanpur have been asked to submit an affidavit stating that they will not indulge in ragging and it has started conducting night raids at hostels, being undertaken by government-run Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College (GSVM) college.

The registrar of IIT Kanpur, RK Sachan said "If any students are caught doing so or exploiting any fresher in any form, they will be expelled from the college". Senior students are being allowed to take introductions of freshers, but only in hostels and in the presence of wardens and administrative officials, he added.

Sachan claimed that in the last few years no incidents of ragging at IIT have come into light. Dr.Navneet Kumar, Principal of GSVM college has also warned the students that if anybody is caught ragging an FIR will be lodged and expulsion cannot be ruled out.

Similarly, administrations of other colleges, including those of Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Government and private engineering colleges and management schools have implemented various measures to prevent ragging.

The district administration has also issued instructions to colleges for forming anti-ragging cells and strengthening security arrangements around hostels for freshers.

Well, ragging is a rude act which is against Human Rights. However, colleges have now raised new actions against 'Ragging'. This could help many new joiners to colleges/universities. 'Stop Ragging To Save Students Giving Up Their Lives In Such Case'.
