Inert Attitude On Dental College-Student Loses 1Yr

A Student Had To Pay 1Yr Dental Course
An NRI (Non-resident-Indian) student who had been keen on her learning opportunity now turns out to be an expensive lesson. She had to pay in loss her one year studies in Dental course just because of the inert attitude of a City-based Dental college she was studying.

The college had failed to give her all the necessary details in order to appear for her exams, instead suggested that she could approach the court as they would not refund amount. A 20 year old Gisha Palatty who came to India from Switzerland had joined Dr.BR Ambedkar Dental College under NRI Management quota for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course and paid Rs. 16.6 lakhs as fee.

She, who had attended all the internal tests during her first year, was not provided the hall ticket for the final exams. Well, it was the college which denied to give her the hall tickets as it failed to get the eligibility certificate from Switzerland and in-turn said the the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health and Sciences (RGUHS) had not sent th hall ticket for failing to produce the certificate.

The college informed her that they would arrange for the eligibility certificate within a time of 2 months and based on receipt of the certificate as proof she could attempt her first year BDS final exams as a repeater after 6 months. She later asked the college to return all her original marks card through which she could continue her studies in Switzerland, but the college strongly refused for it. Despite, they also directed her to to approach the court and get directions on return of her original Mark sheets.

However, in a time being this matter was taken to the court, where Justice Ram Mohan Reddy observed and said "How can the college and RGUHS do such things? When many students from India go abroad to study, then students who come from abroad to India too, It should not act like this. The institutions have turned into money making business. RGUHS does not teach anything to the students. Doctors who study in these kind of institutions cannot do operations perfectly, if an operation is suggested they interchange it. For example, when the operation was to be done for the right eye they have done it for the left instead and charged Rs. 1.5 crore to one of my friends son. This will never change for centuries".

He further suggested her to access through Consumer Court and take her fee back. On hearing to the petition, Justice Reddy also issued an immediate notices to RGUHS, Dr. BR Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital and Dr. BR Ambedkar Dental College in this regard.
