Engineering, Pharmacy Seats Lying Vacant-Ahmedabad

Nearly 13,000 Odd Seats Lying Vacant
The Counselling for Engineering and Pharmacy Admission process which was recently held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat reported that nearly 13,000 seats remain vacant over this year. After the two mock counselling rounds were conducted, the Admission Committee for Professional Courses found that among a total of 50,052 seats, students have confirmed their admission for about 37,068 seats only. By this 12,966 seats are now lying vacant.

Based on the above report the Officials have come across a decision to offer these seats for reshuffling from 18th to 26th of July, 2012. The ACPC officials said "While there is no dearth of professional seats in the state, the seats are likely to remain vacant either in branches which have lost favor with the students or in colleges which are known to not have impressive infrastructure. The most students preferred to opt for mechanical engineering this time; which has remained as the top branch".

A parent when asked for, said "We have paid Rs. 4 Lakhs per annum as fees for Mechanical Engineering in a reputed self-financed college. There was no point in enrolling our son in a branch which gets affected by recession or does not have a good career prospect".

Besides all these, officials also said that there is a possibility of 15,000 odd seats remaining vacant after the entire admission process is complete as many students also opt for management quota seats outside the state. Well, what do you think is the exact reason for so many seats lying vacant? Is it the go for Top branch or the importance of other courses is down? What say?
